64th World Ploughing Contest KenyaThe Northern Ireland Ploughing Team competed at the 64th World Ploughing Contest in Kenya in December 2017. Allen McAnally (Ballyboley Ploughing Society and Adrian Jamison (Ballycastle Ploughing Society) participated at the World Contest which was held in Kenya for only the second time.
This was Allen's first time to qualify for the World Contest. Allen finished in 12th place after Day 1 Stubble ploughing and despite a breakdown on Day 2, finished a very credible 8th in Grassland to finish in 9th overall. The Conventional class was won by Gene Gruber (USA) with silver medal going to Eamonn Tracey (ROI) withBjarne Nielson (Denmark) taking the bronze medal. Adrian had previously ploughed once at the World Contest where he won the Best Newcomer Award in France 2014. Adrian finished in 12th place in Stubble competition and 11th in Grassland to take 13th place overall. The Reversible Class was won by John Whelan (ROI) for the 2nd time with Bob Mehrtens (New Zealand) taking silver medal and Yves Thievon (France) in bronze medal position. Ronald Coulter was coach/judge with Richard Gill representing NIPA on the World Board. Also attending the event was Adrian's wife, Noreen and Ronnie's wife, Helen. The team equipment was shipped in September and the team hired John Deere tractors in Kenya. The team flew out to Kenya in November along with Aled Morgan from Wales. FUNDRAISING BBQAllen and Adrian hosted a a BBQ to help meet some of the considerable cost of shipping equipment to Kenya. Allen and Adrian would like to thank everyone who contributed to make the event such a success.
